Don Walter was reelected to serve another four years as director of Pensions and Benefits USA at the annual session of the Board of Pensions and Benefits. The group convened February 20 at the Global Ministry Center in Lenexa, Kans. Besides the reelection of Walter, the board received his annual report and reviewed audits of financial statements related to all plans provided by Pensions and Benefits USA.
Walter reported that U.S Nazarene churches contributed a record high of $13.8 million to the P&B Fund in 2013—an increase of 8½ percent over the record $12.7 million received the previous year. During 2013, almost $41 million were paid in benefits from the total assets and benefit programs administered by P&B.
“The Board of Pensions and Benefits was encouraged by the strong level of financial support from our churches across the USA in 2013,” said Geoff Kunselman, chairman of the Board of Pensions USA and superintendent of the Northwestern Ohio District Church of the Nazarene. “Only by such are we able to provide a measure of support for our retired ministers and spouses, and make contributions to the retirement accounts of our active ministers. Similarly the board is appreciative of Dr. Walter and the entire P&B staff for the high quality resources, services, and information they make available to both active and retired ministers.”
Walter recently celebrated 30 years of service to the general church as a member of the staff of Pensions and Benefits USA. He has served as director since first being elected to the post in 1994.
