Pensions and Benefits USA honored retirees and assisted hundreds of active ministers and spouses with information as part of the Nazarene General Assembly and Conventions this summer in Indianapolis.

More than 300 retired USA ministers and spouses were honored for their service to Christ and His Church, Friday evening, June 23, at the Indiana Convention Center. The group gathered from across the United States and collectively represented almost 5,000 years of ministry.

“Today’s church owes a debt of gratitude to these men and women who served so faithfully,” said Don Walter, Pensions and Benefits USA director. “It is encouraging to know that others continue to build upon the foundations they laid to carry Christ to new generations.”

The USA Retired Clergy Recognition Reception was sponsored by Pensions and Benefits USA, which first began hosting the events at general assemblies in 1972.

Hundreds of Nazarene ministers and spouses sought information at the Pensions and Benefits USA booth in the exhibit hall, June 21-25. P&B staff presented workshops and were available to answer questions about retirement, church-provided benefits, and other financial issues. They were joined by representatives from Fidelity Investments and GuideStone Ministries who discussed retirement savings plans and health insurance.

“In the more than three decades I have served in this office, I have learned there is no substitute for presence,” said Don Walter, Pensions and Benefits USA director. “General Assembly provides an excellent opportunity for us to be present to meet with ministers and spouses to discuss the personal financial matters that are most important to them.”

P&B USA also co-sponsored with Nazarene COMPASS Initiative two receptions for the Nazarene Young Clergy Network. The late night “meet-ups” featured Q&A sessions with Filimao Chambo and Deirdre Brower-Latz.
