Kevin Gilmore Roger Creeden

The Board of General Superintendents (BGS) of the Church of the Nazarene has elected Kansas businessman and civic leader Kevin P. Gilmore as the new director of Pensions and Benefits USA (P&B), according to General Treasurer Keith Cox. Cox said the decision was made by the BGS at their September session. At the same time, Roger Creeden, P&B administrative director, has been promoted to director of operations.

“The Board of General Superintendents is confident that Kevin will provide great leadership in this vital ministry of the church,” said Fili Chambo, BGS chairman. “Kevin’s training, experience, and heart for God and His people qualify him for the role. We are thankful for the careful and prayerful search of the Board of Pensions that discovered God had someone prepared, even before we had a need.”

Gilmore fills the vacancy left by Don Walter, who died in March 2019. Walter began working in Pensions and Benefits in 1983 and served as director for 25 years.

“It’s an honor to serve our denomination as director of Pensions & Benefits,” Gilmore said. “I look forward to continuing the legacy of effective assistance provided by the P&B team in meeting the needs and honoring the dedicated service of our active and retired ministers, missionaries, and ministry staff.”

A CPA for more than 30 years, Gilmore has extensive experience in the financial sector. He served as CFO for MidAmerica Nazarene University from 2009 to 2016. Most recently, he has been a partner with B2B CFO, a national management consulting firm that serves owners of small and mid-sized businesses.

“Kevin is both an experienced businessman and a dedicated churchman,” said Cox. “As a member of MidAmerica Nazarene University’s Board of Trustees, I observed firsthand how the Lord used him to guide the university through significant financial challenges when he served as vice president of finance. I’m excited to see the Lord use his financial expertise and passion for serving our pastoral community.”

Gilmore is a graduate of MNU with a B.A. in accounting and M.A. in organization administration. During his career, he has been involved in a variety of civic roles, including president of Olathe School District 233 and the Kansas State Board of Education, and chair of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Gilmore has lived in the Kansas City suburb of Olathe, KS, since 1979. He and wife, Julie, are active members of Olathe College Church of the Nazarene, where Kevin leads an adult bible study fellowship class and serves on the church board. They have three children and four grandchildren. He will begin his new assignment October 14. Creeden has served in Pensions and Benefits USA since 1992 as benefits supervisor and, most recently, as administrative director. In his new position, he will manage the day-to-day operations of P&B to allow Gilmore to focus more closely on strategic initiatives.

“In the absence of a permanent director over the past months, I have worked closely with Roger and the staff of Pensions & Benefits,” said Keith Cox. “He is an excellent fit for the new position as director of operations. It is obvious to me that the Lord has blessed our denomination with an extremely capable and experienced P&B team.”

A graduate of MNU, Creeden is a native of Western Kansas and has been actively involved on Nazarene district committees and in his local church, where he was a long-time treasurer. He and wife, Janet, have one son. They reside in Kansas City, MO.

Pensions and Benefits USA serves almost 17,000 active and retired ministers and widowed spouses and church-employed laypersons with retirement assistance, life and disability insurance, emergency medical assistance, and informational services on taxation, compensation, and other financial matters. Districts and churches contributed $14 million to the P&B Fund in 2018. During that same year, P&B disbursed more than $48 million to those served by its plans.
